National Shortage of Fitters! |
|
The Kidderminster based Carpet Foundation is backed by 12 UK manufacturers and over 1100 top independent retailers across the UK. During a recent survey of its membership, the Carpet Foundation highlighted a growing shortage of skilled carpet fitters in the trade. According to Carpet Foundation figures, there will be a shortage of up to 17800 fitters across the trade by 2007, and this is a major impediment to growth in sales for UK based manufacturers. The Carpet Foundation study also found that average earnings as a carpet fitter range from £25,000 to £50,000 per annum for experienced fitters, yet despite this many retailers are unable to grow their business due to a shortage of skilled fitters.
